They say they give their women more freedom, but there's still the impression that the freedom was theirs to 'give' in the first place.

About This Quote

In the last couple of years, there has been a number of articles written on the subject of female chauvinism in Saudi Arabia. In most of them, the writers claim that women in Saudi Arabia are more free than women in other countries. The writers then go on to say that this is a problem because women in Saudi Arabia do not have the freedom that they really want. The writers also typically say that some countries have a lot more freedom for women while others have a lot less freedom.

But, what they do not say is this: What they really want is the freedom to give their women more freedom. So, instead of criticizing Saudi Arabia for not giving women "enough" freedom, they should be criticizing the countries who give their women too much freedom and refuse to give their own women even enough freedom.
